The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) reports that a Seattle protest-slash-melee in response to speech by noted white nationalist bootlick Milo Yiannopulous devolved into chaos and ended with one protester shot and hospitalized in critical condition. The shooter is described as being “pro Trump.” From the SPLC:
Several hundred fans of the racist “Alt-Right” figure Milo Yiannopoulos outside the hall where he was to speak, waiting to be let in, confronted by a much larger crowd of counter-protesters, chanting anti-Trump and anti-fascist slogans, including an organized pack of masked, black-clad anarchists.
Eventually, violence did strike. An antifascist protester was shot during one of the many small melees that broke out during the evening. Police said a 34-year-old man was seriously wounded by the gunfire and was in critical condition at a local hospital after undergoing surgery.
The shooter is reported to have sent Milo a message about an hour before the incident, reports the Seattle Times:
“Hey Milo,” the 29-year-old former UW student posted to Yiannopoulos’ Facebook page at 7:24 p.m. “im outside in line to your UW event.
“I got sucker punched (he was a bit limp wristed) and someone jacked my #MAGA hat,” he said, referring to the ubiquitous red and white “Make America Great Again” caps worn by supporters of President Trump.
“Anyway for me to get a replacement signed by you?” the man asked
The newspaper reports that Yiannopoulos did not respond.
