From the “They think all black people are up to no good files,” a Victoria’s Secret employee asked customer Kimberly Houzah, a black woman, to leave the store after another black customer, who was completely unrelated, was allegedly caught shoplifting. According to Facebook Live video that Houzah made, the employee said, “I just need y’all to go.” The dozen or so white people in the store were not asked to leave.
Houzah, who spends her days helping people as a nurse, was upset. She’d dropped into the Oxford, Alabama, store to treat herself. Unfortunately, she wasn’t in on the store’s other secret: an employee who apparently thinks all black people are (a) together and (b) shoplifting. According to NBC News, Houzah said:
“Why I gotta be put out just because I’m black in Victoria’s Secret… and we just happened to be in the store at the same time.”
The employee in question has been fired, and the company had the store manager apologize to Houzah in person and released the following statement:
“Victoria’s Secret is adamant that all customers regardless of race be treated with dignity and respect at all times.”
