Pediatric specialist dumped by Denver Health, CU School of Medicine after racist Facebook posts

Denver-area pediatric anesthesiologist Michelle Herren felt that she just had some racism to get off of her chest. So she decided to do so on a Facebook page and now has been dumped from her unpaid faculty appointment with the University of Colorado School of Medicine and her positiion with Denver Health, which employed her. For 10 years. So for 8 of those 10 years, at least, Michelle Herren has viewed our well-spoken, Ivy-league-educated, elegant current First Lady as follows and has been administering anesthesia to, we infer, children of all backgrounds:

The Facebook posts in question include controversial comments about the First Lady. Herren responded to a positive post regarding Michelle Obama with the remark: “Monkey face and poor ebonic English!!! There! I feel better and am still not racist!!! Just calling it like it is!”

Moments after her first post, Herren posted a photo of Obama appearing to shout.

She commented on the unflattering photo with another negative message.

“Doesn’t seem to be speaking too eloquently here, thank god we cant hear her! Harvard??? That’s a place for ‘entitled’ folks said all the liberals!”

CU-Denver released a statement saying:

We are beginning the process to terminate Dr. Herren’s faculty appointment. She has expressed values that are at odds with ours and she has compromised her ability to meet the teaching and patient care missions of the School of Medicine.

Children’s Hospital of Colorado has already removed Michelle Herren’s information from their site, although it is still cached. All it indicates is that she could speak English. Her page at her employer, Denver Health, says that she earned her medical degree at Creighton University School of Medicine and completed her undergradute education at Regis University.

Chillingly, listed among her responsibilities at Denver Health is the following:
Denver Health Site Director and Liaison for the Pediatric Anesthesiology fellowship at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Directly supervising current fellows here at Denver Health for all neonatal surgical cases.
This racist doctor was responsible for supervising anesthesiology fellows in neonatology. We wonder how many of those fellows were people of color who are now recalling their experiences with her and how she talks about one of the best-educated First Ladies in U.S. history and wondering wha Herren’s thoughts about them were.
We suggest that all institutions that employed this doctor should review her cases and supervised fellowships to ascertain whether or not her biases influenced her professional behavior and interactions in ways that have previously gone undetected.
